Substitute Resources, Qualifications & Compensation

  • Substitute teachers are a very important part of WPS and enable us to have a quality instructional program for our students.  We have high expectations for our substitutes and we rely on them to offer engaging and meaningful work to students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

    Anyone interested in applying to become a substitute teacher for WPS must meet the requirements listed below.

    • Must possess good moral character and must pass the required criminal background checks.
    • Must hold an associate’s degree or possess a minimum of 48 hours of college credits OR high school diploma with 2 years experience working with children.

    Pay Rates:
    Substitute teachers: $170/day on Mondays and Fridays, $130/day on Tues., Wed., and Thur.

Substitute Support Positions

  • Substitute Teaching Assistant applicants must have graduated from high school, but do not need college credits and are paid at Step 1 of the Teaching Assistant pay scale.
